If you want to get some referral start giving them!
Well, it’s not so easy, you can say, because… And this sentence is nothing more that the usual way to deny a proposal… YES,BUT.
Ok, so let me clarify what I mean. If we want to win (more) referrals we need to be in contact with people willing to provide their referral for us.
When would someone be inclined to help us and to support our growth?
When she/he believes it can invest her/his time and reputation in a business that will give her/him back some rewards. Or when she/he believes that he/she owes it.
A referral can be a source of value for someone offering it when we could really be perceived as reliable and valuable: I can talk about you to my dear friend John when I believe that you will finally thanking me for having established this connection.  Are we representing this value for our friends to whom we are asking a referral?
And how can we be a source of referral for them? We will examine this in this and the following post. Let’s start with the on-line chance.
Are we promoting our friends in all the way we can on the web?

1.     Do we write a recommendation for them on their Linkedin Profile, a sincere and fact based one?
2.     Are we talking about them in our blogs, Facebook pages?
3.     Are we linking their web-activities to our tweets, thus suggesting our followers to read and discover what they wrote and are doing?
4.     Are we promoting them in the web arena through Klout, giving them appreciation in the form of +K , I like, +1 and so?
5.     Are we focusing on some targeted people, the one that we believe could be a resource for us, a solid network that could be a good way to reach new potential clients?

It’s all about referral. In the end that’s the best way to get new customers. I’m actually working on a project promoting dental hygiene, a project involving a big multinational company producing electrical tooth brushes and a scientific association of dental specialists.
My job consists in helping the dental hygienist to raise a local network with both a on-line and off-line strategy.
The aim is to create a sort of  virtuous circle around the patient, or better say the person, involving the dental hygienist, the dentist and the pharmacist. I know these are very Italian roles, professions that do not exist in all the countries. What is important to me is the way three different professionals, with potentially conflicting interests, could actually work together to promote the health of the patient and their personal wealth.
And everything is based on referral selling of reputation, in this case: promoting new ideas, the notion that dental care is so important that you should consider to invest money on your personal health even when the crisis bites hard like it’s doing nowadays.
Isn’t it amazing that a large multinational companies, investing millions of euros on advertising, is working hard on promoting a program based on word of mouth? Isn’t this telling us something that we should build upon?

The influencer dilemma - Klout - E adesso che faccio?

Che me ne faccio?
Come è possibile utilizzare questi dati, costruirci sopra, farli fruttificare?
Avete idee e suggerimenti? Sono apprezzatissimi!

We all know that referral is based on the power we have to influence people, to be perceived as trustworthy and reliable.
If we want to win good referrals we need to be good influencer. And we know that this influence should run fast thanks to our two legs: the on-line and the off-line strategy, presence, reputation.
Now, thanks to Francesco Fascinato aka @qoredistyle I discovered Klout, a web tool which can measure our influence on the web, telling you which are the people you influence the most, how wide is your true audience, your influencer style (mine is specialist: “You may not be a celebrity, but within your area of expertise your opinion is second to none. Your content is likely focused around a specific topic or industry with a focused, highly-engaged audience”) and a lot of intriguing information about your web-life.
You know that this blog does not claim to teach you anything, my intention is to share good hints and discuss it together to learn from each other and win more awareness.
Therefore I have a question for you: ok, I may know now that my influence average is 50,48; that I am perceived trustworthy when I write about Italy, Education, Social Marketing, Sales; that my influence reach a first circle of 947 people.
So what?
How can we leverage these data? How can we use them? How can we build on them?
Any suggestions? You are welcomed!

La forza della comprensione - The right Groupon Strategy

Scroll down for English version - thanks!
Prossimo post/next post

We talked about Groupon and the risks of a wrong strategy in a recent post. And in these last days I had to face this subject in several occasion so that I could develop my thoughts with the help of other people.
I’m working with a large multinational company and a medical association for a project that will support the launch of a tooth brushing machine and in this area too the Groupon approach has been studied.
What a lot of Groupon partners seem to miss is the real advantage that a Groupon strategy could provide them: someone is using it as a sort of cash cow to raise the profit during low cash time. If you own a restaurant, you have to pay for all the daily fixed costs anyway, either if your restaurant is filled up with people or totally empty. So if you can sell a meal to someone at a price which is at least 1 € higher than the variable costs you have to pay for the ingredients of the meal, you are making money.
Is this why a lot of entrepreneurs are using Groupon?
Well, that’s the wrongest possible approach!
Actually, if you believe this is the goal of your Groupon strategy, you end up providing a bad service to your clients, which produces bad reputation.
On the contrary you should serve these Groupon clients as they were the Royal Family, with all honors and care because what you are doing is working on your fame and reputation.
The Groupon strategy is not a selling one, is pure marketing, advertising.
Just to provide you an example, someone you truly deserve a rich referral, let me quote a restaurant in Milan: Sa.Ba & Tu.  A special place where you are welcomed with a specific care, where you can order what you want from the menu, where everyone smile to you and you feel treated like a king/queen.
The two girls running this place have really understood how they could exploit the Groupon voucher as a marketing tool to win more referral.
And they deserved mine.

Making money through fame - Dalla reputazione al denaro

Scroll down for English version - thanks!

Monday/Lunedì October 17th

Soldi o fama?

English version

Money or fame? What would you prefer? Both! I would say. Or wisdom as Solomon, son of David once asked to the Lord.

That’s not a silly question, as Ana Hoffman points out on this post published recently on The Entrepreneurs Journey, an Australian Blog.
To win word of mouth and new contacts we should aim very high, not just to money, they will come as a collateral effect, but to fame. And a reputation based on a solid ground: what does this mean?
How can we build such a notoriety? Giving away what we have: news, information, value.
The old selling training designed by Gustav Kaeser used to say that the goal of every salesmen should be the Active Referral not the actual sales. Because if we seek for a good reputation we could win a sales, but we will for sure win the respect and the support of the customer.
Is this still true in our world?
What do you think?

Although she affirms that face to face contact cannot be replaced by anything, she makes good use of web tools to support her reputation and ease the personal touch.
No we do have a chance to listen to her and interact with her, so it really a pleasure to use this post to launch her free webminar Turn cold to gold it’s not difficult that will take place   Wednesday October 12th. Here you can find all the details.

La versione di Steve - Lesson learnt?

Scroll down for English version - thanks!
Prossimo post/next post Monday/Lunedì October 10th

English version

It’s Steve Jobs memorial. I couldn’t find a single blog not quoting Steve Jobs today and I can’t be so snob to believe that don’t giving a damn about his death could be considered innovative and smart.
He as been a great man, not a saint, but for sure a men of great ideas and great bravery. Someone to honor, respect and praise, and pray for too.
Everyone is quoting is famous speech at Stanford, “stay hungry stay foolish”. A great one. I’d like to remember here another speech, much more important and sharp and sweet at the same time, for a man who suffered and died like Steve (pancreatic cander): Randy Pausch and his last lecture.
But there is one more reason why we can talk about Steve Jobs in this blog, since he was a true master of referral selling: could you name a brand whose fame is due to word of mouth more than Apple? Whose reputation has grown and is growing so much thanks to its fans?
So how could he reach that result? Which was his secret in having such a huge influence that everyone was at least talking about Apple, because they love it or they hate it.
I do not know the answer, but I believe that together we can find out a sort of magic formula.
I personally was introduced in the Apple word by my son and a friend, Stefano Vaghi, and I have to thank them for having been so persistent in urging me. I became addicted and an enthusiastic fan as soon as I start using my first MacBook.
Why did I? I can’t say, I suspect it was not just a question of ease of use, a higher quality. It was also the fact that I discovered a role for myself, the role of the apostle, some one who has a strong faith and a world to conquer with an higher truth.
Could we use the same approach for our solutions? Could we infuse the same spirit in our clients?
Which is your experience and what we could learn from it?
