It’s a dirty job. To be a consultant.
And since every salesmen must act as a consultant, well, selling is a dirty job. Hard and disappointing.

I can tell you my personal challenges connected with this.

I discovered some time ago a book that was frightening to me: in its simplicity it opened a new world to me and told me all my mistakes. We already discussed it together: it’s Getting Naked by Patrick Lencioni.

What's in it for me? For us?

The essence of consultancy: never forget you have to provide value to the client even when this implies to be rude. To be honest. Tell the straight truth, at least what you believe it’s the straight truth. Do not just agree with the client when deep inside you are convinced (s)he is totally wrong, making a big mistake, because you fear to lose business.

In principle it’s easy to agree with these statements. Lencioni put them clear: enter the danger, do not fear to lose the business. You own that to your client.

But when you are there, and your forecasts tend to look poor and weak, it’s hard to face and challenge your client.

I believe here it the moment of truth for each of us: how far are we able to withstand this contest?
I believe it’s a self-assessment everyone should consider.

I really love to get your thoughts on this point: what do you think? Which are the issues that you are facing and you fear the most? Which are your strengths you can realy upon? Can you help us to live this quality in better way?
