Come abbiamo sviluppato quest'abilità?
Aah ... interessante.

English version

Selling means value: for both. The concept of shared advantages is well established. What is changing is the way this value is traded and what is more intriguing when it is traded and what it is.
We have agreed that a huge part of values should be given away at first by the salesman, so establishing a reputation and creating the basis for the sales call.
And we also discussed the fact that any sales should in some way address the only goal that buyers have in mind: increase the profit of their company.
Is this always true or is this assumption an optimistic one? Does all the people we talk to in a company have a clear focus on the company final target or are they trapped by their own target which can be slightly different from the company’s one, especially when the corporation is not applying a global view but is spellbound by the local optima curse?
This is a vital question because if it’s true that we, as salesmen, have to act as consultants and strive to help the client get to her/his goal, it is nonetheless true that we are not committed martyrs to the cause of client’s profit against their will.
How can we understand the true priority of the person we are talking to?
The art of asking sharp questions is the only viable way. But we should add the art of understanding the answers, or better say to translate, to decode answers: because we cannot expect the client to say straightly what we want to know.
Can we master that art? Are we able in detecting the hidden meaning buried in between conventional words and foggy sentences? How did we developed that art?
We video-interviewed some druggists for a client of us so that we can use the video with the sales team to discuss them.
One of the question was: what is more relevant for you in choosing a product to display?
Almost all the answers started the same way: quality of course and price. Would you expect something different? But then, slowly and firmly the truth started to emerge. Someone add: and rotation mainly.
Aha… that’s interesting.
And then more true reason like:
advertising, quick delivery, no minimum quantity, know how, availability for merchandising or conferences for the clients…
And this is a completely different story.
So what do you usually do to grasp the surface and grab the substance?
