I miracoli avvengono. Talvolta. Stiamo discutendo su come aumentare la propria reputazione vorrei raccontarvi una storia vera che può darci interessanti spunti.
E’ una storia tutta americana che racconta di un immigrante asiatico, un ingegnere elettronico che come primo lavoro si trova a fare da banale manutentore di PC: sai com’è, cambia la scheda madre, prova la scheda video e così via. Ma siccome è intelligente si rende conto che l’azienda dove lavora va male perché è gestita male. Ma nessuno gli dà retta, in fin dei conti è solo un operaio tecnico. Così quando l’azienda alla fine fallisce, il nostro eroe chiede prestiti a tutti gli amici e riesce a comperare l’azienda, che come è facile intuire, gestita correttamente va a gonfi vele. E lui dopo qualche anno la vende per qualche centinaio di milioni di dollari.
Fine della storia? No questo è l’inizio.
Perché il geniale imprenditore prima di andarsene, i soldi già in tasca, chiama tutti i suoi ormai ex dipendenti e chiede ad ognuno di loro a quanto ammontano i suoi debiti: prestito per l’università, mutuo della casa e così via. E li salda personalmente. Via tutti i debiti agli ex-dipendenti. Costo dell’operazione: meno del 5% del capitale incassato.
Ora quando questo signore avrà delle difficoltà che cedete che correrà a dargli una mano? E quando infine fonderà una nuova azienda da zero, chi credete che saranno i suoi nuovi dipendenti pronti a sputare sangue per far decollare l’azienda? E che valore ha la reputazione di un simile uomo?
Che lezione possiamo trarre da questa storia, che, ripeto, è proprio vera?

Magic happens. Sometime. We are discussing about increasing one’s reputation and I want to share this true story that can provide powerful hints.
It’s an American story, and talks about en Asian immigrants, an electronic engineer, who landed in the US start working as a simple PC repairer. You know: remove the motherboard, check the video board and so on. He works in a company which is doing bad and he believe to know what it should be done to make the company profitable. But who cares of an electronic worker? So when the company eventually goes bankrupt he is able to collect loan from friends and banks and buys the company. As you can guess the company is a big success and he ends up selling it for some hundred million dollars.
End of the story? Not at all: just the beginning. Just before leaving his desk, the money in his pocket, he calls all of his now previous employees, ask them which debts they do have (university loans, house loan and so on) and, listen to this, he pay for all of them. Investment required less then 5% of the amount earned.
What about is reputation? And when he will be in trouble who you believe would run to help him? And who will be his employees in the new start up company he will found?
